A Silent Pursuit of Happiness

A Performance by Justin Ginsberg

43 minutes and 30 seconds

The Chrysler Museum of Art - Norfolk, VA - 2016

text given to the audience before beginning:

I am controlled by what I try and control.

It is a type of quarantine - A solitary confinement. Surrounded by the busy-ness of the exterior world - vulnerable and isolated. I am trying to engage, and through the process become disengaged. I am trying to connect and through the process become disconnected. I am trying to feel, and the process become numb. In my pursuit to have the things, which I want and need, I have become distracted. And through this obscuring of the present - the here and now, I become unaware of my existence.

I am virtually present.

I will be live feeding from inside the structure on facebook. You can search the live feed interactive map.

Dérive

The sound piece is a composition created by artist duo Jeff Gibbons and Justin Ginsberg who work under the name Apophenia Underground. Played on an out of tune player piano, the sounds are created by physically manipulating the paper music, which is flipped, reversed, and slowly fed into the piano, it deconstructs itself through the process of being fed into the machine.

Special thank you to Charlotte Potter and the Chrysler Museum of Glass, and the Chrysler Museum of Art staff and volunteers. Also to Lilith Zone, Dasgentleman, Ojipan, Lea Jinks, and mOcojute for providing their assistance and expertise.

Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
