What is Known, is Unknown

Presented at the Traver Gallery - Seattle, WA - 2017

...because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know. - Donald Rumsfeld

Ginsberg writes," the large-scale installation directly references our visually driven, cyber-obsessive culture, and societies seemingly unquenchable appetite for information, eye candy, distraction – through the immaterial of light. Two 300 lb industrial spools of pseudo fiber-optic strands of glass, operated as both a reference of the industrialized raw material - the structure of our digital connection, as well as effort/work. A screen comprised of thousands of small scientific glass viles, compressed into a ring through tension, captures a projector attempting to project darkness. Additionally, a sound piece was presented through specialized headphones of an infra-tone - generally inaudible to the human ear. The specific sound has been determined by NASA to be the ocular resonance frequency - often referred to as the Ghost Frequency -causing our eyeball to literally vibrate within our eye socket. This causes uncomfortable feelings and often nausea.”
