Light of Other Days

Light of Other Days suspends thousands of hand-pulled strands of glass before a multi-channel video of footage captured at a trillion frames per second, showing a single photon traveling through a Coca-Cola bottle. The video is sequenced so that for one instant the photon cannot be seen, existing only between frames. The strands hang like an undulating wave, reading as both a single gesture and thousands of fragmented lines. The title borrows from Bob Shaw's story about "slow glass," so dense that light takes years to pass through it. Each fifty-foot strand, pulled by hand in a single continuous walk, becomes a slow glass of its own.
